Water
Management
Niparajá´s water program focuses on gathering scientific data on the
quality and quantity of Baja California Sur´s sources of water with the
aim of implementing action plans to protect community and ecosystem
health.
Current Projects
Since September 2004, Niparaja´s water program consist of:

Baja "500":
Analyze the water quality (bacteria, heavy metals, salinity) of 500
wells in Baja California Sur.

Develop filters to provide safe drinking water to rural communities:
Future Work
Niparaja´s future work on water includes:

Rural schools:
Develop a water quality test kit and a manual for rural schools to
enable teachers and school children to monitor their community wells.

Mining sites: Study the impact of mine contamination on populations
and ecosystems: San Antonio, San Juan de la Costa, and Santa Rosalia.
Propose a phytoremediation plan using ferns to clean the
contaminated environment.

Loreto aquifer: Conduct a geophysical and geochemical study of the
Loreto aquifer to determine the quantity and quality of water and
assess seawater intrusion.

Micro-watersheds: Launch a pilot study on microwatershed management
in isolated ranchs to make use of stormwater.
