Project’s progress

Fabrication… In January 2007, the fabrication of the first 500 UV Buckets was concluded at TECA’s workshop in La Paz. We concluded on a series of improvements to be made for the fabrication process of the next 2000 UV buckets (summer 2007). We have decided to manufacture the upper parts in plastic injection. The advantage of plastic injection is that all parts could assemble easily with “snap fit” type of assembly, meaning, no more screws or velcros or bolts… We also considered fabricating the entire lamp and ballast unit with an electronic company that could pour the epoxy resin and send us a final unit to be easily inserted in the disinfection chamber.

Visit to Guatemala… We visited 8 communities around Lake Atitlan in Guatemala during the first week of February 07. We were selected as consultant on a project between Rotary International and World Neighbors to bring clean water to this region. Three UV buckets were installed at the school and with the head of the water committee of Xejuyu, a small community of 300 families at 10 km from Lake Atitlan. The teachers and members of the water committee will be in charge of writing down observations, problems and suggestions for improvements on the UV Bucket during the next few months. We will review their comments together with them in July 2007, during our annual water conference in Lake Atitlan.
